Survivor of a devastating automobile accident and life-changing brain injuries, the author uses her survival experience and her expertise as a social worker and peer counselor to craft a powerful set of group discussions. Groups help participants grasp the concept of acceptance as a process of recognizing problems, admitting deficits and finally accepting the reality of the present moment. Groups help survivors become aware of strengths and weaknesses, deal with loss, learn problem solving skills and build realistic goals. This structural group program is intended for use by rehabilitation professionals who work with survivors of traumatic brain injuries or other conditions resulting in disabilities.
